Orientation

New international students are expected to participate in an international student orientation program. The Office for International Students and Scholars (OISS) offers two orientation programs for international students prior to the fall semester.  As an exchange student, you must attend either the Explore Program or the Discover Program.

Explore Program
The majority of students in this program are first-year students coming to WU from outside the U.S. In addition, this program is attended by some first-year students from within the U.S. and some exchange students. You must register for this program by June 15 and there is a $500 USD program fee.

Explore will help you adjust to cultural differences and ease your transition to both the United States and to Washington University. Students participating in the Explore Program should arrive on August 17, 2017. Campus housing will not be available for Explore students arriving before August 17, 2017. The Explore Program, which begins on the evening of August 18, 2017, includes participation in a Pre-Orientation program, which will incorporate you with US first year students. You will register for a Pre-Orientation program at the same time you register for Explore and are expected to fully participate in both the Explore orientation and Pre-Orientation program.  For more information, or to register online, visit: https://oiss.wustl.edu/students/orientation/explore/.  Please note that there is a fee associated with participation in this program. Students who choose to arrive in St. Louis for the Explore Program prior to August 17th will need to make arrangements to stay elsewhere until August 17, 2017.  There are many options near campus. Visit the Explore St. Louis website (http://stlouishotels.explorestlouis.com/1034_hotel-list.html ) for a list of hotel options. You’ll want to search in the “Midtown/Clayton” region for hotels near Washington University.

Discover Program
Discover is geared toward exchange students, international transfer students and first-year international students with experience living and studying in the U.S. You must register for this program before July 15 and there is a $75 USD program fee.
Discover is an introduction to the people, places, resources and activities that will help you succeed both academically and socially as WU. Students participating in Discover should arrive on August 21, 2017. For those living on campus, housing will not be available for Discover students arriving before August 21, 2017.
