Office 365 - Post-Migration Instructions

After your mailbox is migrated, there are some steps you need to take to reconnect your programs and devices to your mail account. General client setup instructions can be found on the WUSTL Office 365 page.

DO THIS FIRST: Logon to your mailbox using the web!

If you haven't setup Outlook or Apple Mail or some other program, you CAN still use your email. Logon to your mailbox on the web, no setup required. Go to http://email.wustl.edu/mail and logon and you're ready to go.

Select the link to jump to the appropriate instructions:

Web Mail -- Outlook Web App (OWA)

  1. Open your preferred web browser
  2. Go to http://email.wustl.edu/mail
  3. Enter your WUSTL Key username and password and click Login

You can also use the address http://outlook.com/email.wustl.edu if you want to bookmark the site directly). Do NOT bokmark the WUSTL Key logon page. This will not work.

Microsoft Outlook (Windows)

  1. IMPORTANT!!! Restart your PC.
  2. Logon to your PC and start Microsoft Outlook.
  3. Enter your Olin username and password when prompted to logon. 

    IMPORTANT! No matter what username is in the logon window, use: olin\YourUsername

  4. You will be prompted to logon again. This time, enter your WUSTL Key username and password.

    IMPORTANT! No matter what username is in the logon window, use the following:
    • If your @wustl.edu address matches your WUSTL Key username, enter your @wustl.edu address for the username: WKusername@wustl.edu
    • If your @wustl.edu address does NOT match your WUSTL Key username, enter your username as: WKusername@email.wustl.edu
       
  5. After Outlook completes making the necessary changes, you will see a message that says "The Microsoft Exchange administrator has made a change that requires you to quit and restart Outlook."
  6. Restart Outlook.
  7. When prompted to logon, enter your WUSTL Key credentials, check the box to remember your credentials, and click OK. If you are not prompted to logon, restart your PC.
  8. Close Outlook and restart your computer.

If you don't get prompted to logon as described above, restart your PC. We've found that this usually corrects the issue.

Microsoft Outlook (Mac)

  1. Start Outlook. If it is started, restart it.
  2. You should see an error that mail can't be received. If you do, click No to clear the message.
  3. Open Tools and then Accounts.
  4. In the "E-mail Address" field, enter your @wustl.edu email address.
  5. In the "User Name" field enter your @wustl.edu email address. If your WUSTL Key username and @wuslt.edu address do not match, then you enter WKUsername@email.wustl.edu.
  6. In the "Password" field, enter your WUSTL Key password.
  7. Click "Advanced..."
  8. Under the Microsoft Exchange section, in the "Server" field, enter: outlook.office365.com
  9. Make sure only the "Use SSL to connect" checkbox is checked. All other boxes should be unchecked.
  10. Under Directory Service section, in the "Server" field enter: ds.wustl.edu
  11. Click OK
  12. Close the Accounts window.

Apple Mail (Mac)

  1. From the Apple menu, select System Preferences
  2. Click on Internet Accounts
  3. Select your Olin Exchange account and click the minus sign (-) to remove the old account and click OK to confirm
  4. If you have other accounts listed, click the plus sign (+) to add a new account, then click Exchange. If the plus sign is grayed out, just click Exchange
  5. In the Exchange window, enter the following information:
    • Name: Enter a name for the account (doesn't matter what you put here, it will be changed automatically to match your name in the directory.)
    • Email Address:
      • If your @wustl.edu address matches your WUSTL Key username, enter your @wustl.edu address
      • If your @wustl.edu address does NOT match your WUSTL Key username, enter WKusername@email.wustl.edu
    • Password: Enter your WUSTL Key password
  6. Click Continue
  7. You may see a warning about the server certificate for "wustl.edu". if you do, click Continue
  8. In the Account Summary window, check the boxes for any of the other services you want to use with your account.

If you are on Mac OS 10.9 "Mavericks" and get a "preferences" error, try restarting your Mac. There seems to be a bug in Mavericks during the autodiscover part of setup.

Mobile Devices (Android, iPad, iPhone, Windows Phone, Blackberry, etc.)

  1. Remove your existing Exchange account from your mobile device
  2. Add your new Office 365 account using the instructions for your mobile device on the WUSTL Office 365 website: http://email.wustl.edu/email-client-setup/
