Accessing the Virtual Lab using MacOS

IMPORTANT! Microsoft released a new version of the Remote Desktop app in the Mac App Store on November 28, 2017. Microsoft Remote Desktop 10 is the version you want. If you have the previous version, Remote Desktop 8, installed on your Mac, please install the new version, then select Connections > Import from Microsoft Remote Desktop to transfer your existing settings. After doing the import, you can uninstall the old version.

Getting an XML Error? If you tried setting up the virtual lab and received an XML error, please try again with the corrected URL listed below. (updated February 8, 2018)

  1. Download and install the latest version of Microsoft Remote Desktop 10 from the App Store if you don’t already have it. Click here to go to the App Store.
  2. Setup folder redirection by clicking settings (⚙) and selecting Preferences 
    • Click on the drop-down list and select Choose Folder
    • Select the local folder you would like to make available in your remote session(s)
  3. Click the plus sign (+) and select Remote Resources.
  4. Enter the URL https://vlab.olin.wustl.edu and click Find Feed.
  5. You have three options for User Account:
    • Select Ask me every time to re-enter your credentials for each connection.
    • Select an existing account if one is listed.
    • Select Add User Account... to add a new account:
      1. Enter your username and account for User Name:
        • Students: Enter accounts\username (username is your WUSTL Key logon)
        • Olin Faculty & Staff: olin\username (username is your Olin logon)
      2. Enter your password for Password.
      3. Enter a Friendly Name (optional).
      4. Click Save.
  6. Click Apps to display the apps available to you from the Virtual Lab.
  7. Double-click the app you want to run.
